Understanding Desire2Learn My Home and Course Home

  • My Home

    My Home is your starting point inside Desire2Learn (D2L). From here, you can access the site News, your Courses, the Calendar and Technical Support widgets. The overall layout is a two-column design.



    The Minibar is the overall navigation tool of D2L. It is not only found on the My Home page, but every course homepage as well.
    The elements of the minibar are:

    1. My Home: Returns you to the My Home screen, the first page you see once you log into Desire2Learn.
    2. Course Selector: Courses are listed in the course selector, and you can sort them by course name or by date last accessed. You can also select specific courses from the course selector and pin them to the top of the list for easier navigation by clicking on the Push Pin icon. Access the course you want from the course selector. Click Load More Courses to expand the course list, or use the Search field to find your course.
    3. Alerts: If you have unread alerts for pages, email or discussion posts, a red dot appears on the appropriate alert icon.
      Message alerts - Minibar-Mail E-mail and pager messages.Update alerts - Minibar-Updates New and updated news posts, upcoming dropbox end dates, released and updated grades, and upcoming quiz end dates.Chatter alerts - Minibar-Alerts New discussion posts in forums, topics, and specific message threads to which you subscribed.
    4. Personal menu: The personal menu contains links to your profile, notification settings, account settings, and log-out options. Click your name on the minibar to open the personal menu.

    Course Home

    Course Home is the first page you visit when you enter a course. Like My Home, it contains your personal tools and different widgets for displaying information, including course specific content.


    1. The reference links are found in the IUP Links drop-down menu. These links include; imail, the IUP Homepage, IUP Libraries, MyIUP, the the IUP Disabilities Support page.
    2. The action bar has been changed to a drop-down Action menu.
    3. The updates are part of the Update Alerts in the minibar.
    4. Is the default course navbar.
