Using Films on Demand with Desire2Learn

  • Films On Demand is a Web-based digital video delivery service that allows you to view streaming videos from Films Media Group anytime, anywhere, 24/7. You can connect to a video clip in Films On Demand using D2L with the following instructions.

    Creating a Web Link to a Video

    1. Go to the Films On Demand database through the library Web pages. Locate the desired video clip. (Please contact the library for assistance if you have problems with using the database.)
    2. On the Films On Demand webpage, underneath the video player, click on the Share link at the top. In the box, there is a Web link that points to the video clip. Next click on the Embed Code link. Copy this entire link.

    3. Once you have located the desired video clip, log into D2L, navigate to your course, then select Content on the navbar.  Go to the module where the video is to reside. Next select the Update/Create button.  From the drop-down menu select Create a Link.
    4. Enter a titled in the appropriate area. Paste the link from Film on Demand on the URL box.  Check the box next to, Open an External Resource. Lastly click on the Create button.

      Note: When using Films on Demand, make sure the first half of the link has http://navigator-iup.passhe.edu/login?url= at the front of the link.

    5. Test the link by going back to the Content tool and click on the link you have just created. You should be taken to the video on Films on Demand.


    Embedding a Films on Demand Video

    1. Go to the Films On Demand database through the library webpages. Locate the desired video clip. (Please contact the library for assistance with using the database.)
    2. On the Films On Demand webpage,  Click on the title for the desired video or video segment. Underneath the video player, select the Share link from the toolbar.
    3. From the next toolbar select the Embed Code link. You will need to use the Embed Code - (Full Title) in D2L.  Select the Highlight link underneath Embed Code - (Full Title).  Copy the highlited link. Go to your D2L course.
    4. Once you have located the desired video clip log into D2L, navigate to your course, then select Content on the navbar.  Go to the module where the video is to reside.  (If you do not already have a module you can create one.) Select the Create a File from the Upload/Create drop-down menu. Enter the tile for the link. 
    5. In the HTML editor, select the Insert Stuff icon InternetStuff from the toolbar.
    6. From the Insert Stuff pop-up window, click on the Enter Embed Code button on the left of the window.
    7. In the box labeled Embed Code, paste the embed code you copied from the desired Films On Demand video.
    8. Click on the Next button in the lower left corner of the window, then click on the Insert button in the lower left corner of the window.
    9. You are returned to the Create New File window. Click on the Publish button. Wait a moment or so and the video should appear in the created file. Test the link by clicking on the arrow in the center of the embedded video.
