Using Films on Demand with Desire2Learn

  • Films On Demand is a Web-based digital video delivery service that allows you to view streaming videos from Films Media Group anytime, anywhere, 24/7. You can connect to a video clip in Films On Demand using Desire2Learn (D2L) with the following instructions.

    Note: When off campus, you may need to connect to the IUP Virtual Private Network (VPN) in order to view the video.

    Creating a Web Link to a Video

    1. Go to the Films On Demand database through the library Web pages. Locate the desired video clip. (Please contact the library for assistance with using the database.)
    2. On the Films On Demand webpage, underneath the video player, you will find a label, Title URL. In this box, there is a Web link that points to the video clip. Copy this entire link.
    3. Once you have located the desired video clip, log into D2L, navigate to your course, then select Content on the navbar.  Select New File from the Add Content drop-down menu. Select the module where the clip will reside. (If you do not already have a module, you can create one.) Enter the tile for the link. In the HTML editor select the Advanced tab.
    4. Select the Insert Stuff icon InternetStuff.
    5. From the Insert Stuff pop-up window, click on the Enter a URL button on the left of the window.
    6. In the URL box, paste the address for the link that you previously copied. A link for Films on Demand appears as follows:

      Note: When using Films on Demand, make sure the first half of the link has http://navigator-iup.passhe.edu/login?url= at the front of the link. When off campus, you may need to connect to the IUP Virtual Private Network (VPN) in order to view the video.
    7. Click on the Next button in the lower left corner. On the Insert Stuff Properties screen, enter a Title for the link, then click the Insert button.
    8. You are taken back to the Create New FIle screen. Click the Save and Close or Save button. Test the link by going back to Manage Content and click on the link.

    Embedding a Films on Demand Video

    1. Go to the Films On Demand database through the library webpages. Locate the desired video clip. (Please contact the library for assistance with using the database.)
    2. On the Films On Demand webpage, underneath the video player, you will find a label, Title URL. In this box there is a Web link that points to the video clip. Copy this entire link
    3. Once you have located the desired video clip log into D2L, navigate to your course, then select Content on the navbar.  Select New File from the Add Content drop-down menu. Select the module where the clip will reside. (If you do not already have a module you can create one.) Enter the tile for the link. In the HTML editor select the Advanced tab.
    4. Enter the tile for the link. In the HTML editor, select the Advanced tab. Select the Insert Stuff icon InternetStuff.
    5. From the Insert Stuff pop-up window, click on the Enter Embed Code button on the left of the window.
    6. In the box labeled Embed Code, paste the embed code you copied from the desired Films On Demand video.
    7. Click on the Next button in the lower left corner of the window, then click on the Insert button in the lower left corner of the window.
    8. You are returned to the Create New File window. Click on the Save and Close or Save button. (It may appear there is nothing in the edit box. That is because you have pasted HTML code into the editor not text. You will need to save the video as indicated.) Test the link by going back to Manage Content and clicking on the link.
