Accessing Online Rooms in D2L

  • Blackboard Collaborate will be available for use and officially joins the IUP online learning toolset in Summer 2013. The Collaborate product will replace Wimba Classroom as the IUP Web-conferencing product at the end of Spring 2013.

    1. You access a Collaborate room by clicking on the Online Rooms link in the course navbar. D2L Student Navbar
    2. You are then placed in the Rooms tab. At the bottom of the Rooms tab, a list is displayed of available rooms.
    3. Note that the table displays the Start and End Dates for each room listed in the table.
    4. Click on the Join link in the Join Room column next to the desired room title. D2L Online Room Room List
    5. The Blackboard Collaborate webpage opens. You will need to leave this webpage open until you are actually in the room._UpdatedLauncher1
    6. If you do not already have the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher installed, click on the link titled download the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher and follow the instructions for installation.It will be necessary to select the appropriate launcher for your platform. In other words, if you are using a windows machine, select the Windows version of the launcher from the drop-down. If you are using a Macintosh, select Mac version from the launch drop-down.
    7. The browser you are using may ask you to open or save the meeting.collab file. You will need to open or Run the meeting.collab.file. A file titled meeting.collab will be downloaded to your machine. For example, in Firefox you would see a dialog box similar to the one below.
    8. Make sure that the Open radio button is selected, and the click the OK button to open the meeting.collab file. It should open with the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher program. If you have problems with the Launcher, Blackboard has provided a Troubleshooting article, or please feel free to contact the IT Support Center via ihelp.
    9. You may also be asked to accept the Blackboard Collaborate license agreement. Select the Accept button.
    10. You may also be asked to select your Connection Speed. From the drop-down menu, select the speed you access the Internet from you location. For example, if your ISP is a broadband provider, you would select Cable/DSL.Opening Collaborate Room
