Greetings from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP)!
As director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at IUP, I am pleased to briefly introduce our university and to invite you and your family to spend time exploring the university website—academic programs, admissions procedures, housing, plus more. More specifically for prospective international students, the OIA website provides a great deal of information about the steps necessary to become an IUP student.
Founded in 1875 as a teacher trainer college, IUP has evolved into a mid-size, multidisciplinary university located in a safe, friendly, and affordable university town. Indiana is located approximately one hour northeast of Pittsburgh, which is the closest metropolitan area. IUP offers international students a truly American university experience—small town, residence halls, many on-campus activities and clubs, plus excellent academic standards.
IUP is the largest public university in the state of Pennsylvania, with 14,000 students, and it offers more than one hundred majors for undergraduate students in six colleges:
The university also offers more than forty master's programs and eight doctoral programs.
After international students are admitted to IUP, the OIA sends the acceptance package with original immigration documents, pre-arrival guide, immigration guide, orientation information, and housing contract.
We also conduct a five-day, mandatory orientation program for new international students at the beginning of the Fall (late August) and Spring (early January) semesters. The OIA assists and guides international students through the initial adjustment period as well as through their entire stay at IUP. For many students, we are “a home away from home.”
Thank you for taking time to get to know IUP. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to IUP.
