    What is SkillZone?

    SkillZone is a free drop-in center for all IUP international students and scholars (ALI, undergraduate, exchange, and graduate) to access support for their classes and to develop academic skills for success such as:

    • presentation and communication skills
    • study strategies
    • managing classroom expectations
    • academic integrity issues
    • group discussions
    • GRE and GMAT preparation workshops

    What types of assignments can I get help with?

    SkillZone tutors can help with homework assignments from just about any class, from English to science or math. Tutors can also help students who are preparing for the GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, or IELTS tests. SkillZone isn’t just for homework, though. Students who want to practice English or find out about other campus resources can also get the support they need at SkillZone.

    Who are the SkillZone tutors?

    The tutors at SkillZone are undergraduate and graduate students who come from a variety of cultural, language, and disciplinary backgrounds.  

    Where is it?

    SkillZone is located in Eicher 206 and 208, down the hall from the IUP Writing Center. Eicher Hall is on Grant Street across from Wallwork Hall. You can use the IUP interactive campus map to find us.

    When is it?

    SkillZone is open Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the Fall and Spring semesters. Summer Hours are Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    What does it cost?

    SkillZone and its services are free of charge to members of the IUP community.

    SkillZone can partner with your class by providing your international students with additional support for course work and assignments. Find additional information in our Instructor Brochure.

    Referral Form

    SkillZone staff will send you a faculty report form at the request of a student with details about tutoring sessions. If you want students to visit SkillZone to make up a test or receive assistance with an assignment, please share any specific instructions using the instructor referral form.

    Please encourage your international students to take advantage of the academic support offered through SkillZone by including this description in your syllabus:

    SkillZone is a drop-in tutoring center for all IUP international students and scholars. Tutors are IUP students who provide multilingual, multidisciplinary assistance for international students’ academic and cultural concerns. In addition to tutoring for coursework, SkillZone also offers support in areas including: 

    • Study strategies
    • Presentation skills
    • Managing classroom expectations
    • Academic  integrity concerns 
    • Preparing for tests, including the GMAT, GRE, and TOEFL
    • Participating in group discussions

    The Office of International Education’s exciting SkillZone Program is currently accepting applications for SkillZone tutors! 

    Please submit an application and resume. Tutor applications are accepted throughout the semester. Applications and questions can be sent via e-mail to skill-zone@iup.edu or in person to 205 Eicher Hall.
