BS in Computer Science, Information Assurance Track

Prepares students a variety of careers in cyber security such as network administrator, information security specialist, digital forensics specialist, or network security manager

Minor in Information Assurance

Complements bachelor degrees in criminology, computer science, information systems, and others with base understanding and skills in cyber security/information assurance


NSTISSI 4011 Certification

Students who complete COSC 316 Host Security and three courses of COSC 356 Network Security, COSC 429 Digital Forensics, CRIM 321 Cybersecurity and Loss Prevention, and CRIM 323 Cybersecurity and the Law qualify for NSTISSI 4011 Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professional Certificate. CNSSI 4012 Certification

Students who have met the requirements for the NSTISSI 4011 Certification and have taken COSC 454 Management of Information Assurance qualify for the CNSSI 4012 Systems Managers Certificate.

CNSSI 4013 Entry-Level Certification

Students who have met the requirements for the NSTISSI 4011 Certification, have taken courses with mainframe and Unix experiences, and are approved by the chair of Computer Science and the director for the Information Assurance Institute qualify for the CNSSI 4013 System Administrators Entry Level Certificate.


The Department of Computer Science offers a six- and 12-credit internship experience as a capstone course where a student is a full-time employee working for a company or government agency in the field of computer science. These internships provide a hands-on experience working on real problems with support from mentors in the field and IUP faculty. Many internships are in information assurance and cyber security. Contact the Computer Science internship coordinator or the chair of the Computer Science Department for more information.
