SUMMARY:Colloquium: Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds: Helping Adolescents with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
DESCRIPTION:Complex and interrelated processes in adolescents with physical illness, namely PCOS, make efficacious interventions challenging. This enhanced cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing therapy creates a synergistic effect across domains (weight, mood, and sleep) in ways that become increasingly salient during adolescence. This research will lay the groundwork for future interventions targeting important physical, emotional, and behavioral facets. {Dr. Rofey has been involved with NIH-funded grants and has completed research trials investigating synergistic behavioral interventions that affect physiological outcomes (e.g., PCOS), health promotion in high-risk adolescents, psychosocial outcomes in teens having bariatric surgery, collaborative care models in pediatric primary care, pediatric variants of bipolar disorder, and psychosocial implications of bariatric surgery. SUMMARY:Psychology Brown Bag Series: DegreeWorks for Advisors
DESCRIPTION:Matt Spangler is the DegreeWorks Support Specialist in IUP's Office of the Registrar.    DegreeWorks is a Web-based tool (http://www.iup.edu/page.aspx?id=133441) that enables advisors to view a real-time comparison of a student’s academic coursework against program specific requirements. The information is presented in an easy-to-read color-coded checklist format. Using this tool, advisors can view and track their students’ remaining degree requirements, elective requirements, overall GPA, and several other measures of progress. DegreeWorks has been available for all university advisors since the Fall 2012 Semester, and those who currently utilize it, evaluated it positively and provided useful feedback about it.

DESCRIPTION:To help undergraduate students monitor their academic performance, faculty members will provide a warning to students with unsatisfactory performance at midterm. Each semester, the Registrar will establish and announce the dates for the window within which midterm grades may be posted by faculty members and read by students and advisors. Faculty members will assign a midterm grade of "D" (danger or potential failure) of "F" (failure) by using the Univerity Records and Systems Assistant (URSA) at www.iup.edu/ursa. The midterm grade is an advisory grade and is not a permanent part of a student's academic history. It is not used to determine enrollment status, dismissal, or eligibllity for financial aid, housing, or athletics.
