Dr. Vicky Clark is the Art Gallery Director and art historian at Clarion University, and has been a curator, writer and teacher for more than 30 years. SUMMARY:Workshop: "Christopher Beckman: Still Clean"
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the IUP Counseling Center, this is the first of several free activities scheduled during Chris Beckman's visit to campus April 1-4.  Catapulted into the national spotlight when he was only 24, artist and former Ralph Lauren model Christopher Beckman's substance abuse and homosexuality were tabloid fodder during his stint on MTV's "Real World Chicago."  Sober for 12 years now, Beckman will lead a workshop candidly discussing his struggles with addiction, his recovery, and how he deals with the "real world" today.  This workshop will be of great benefit to anyone wanting to better understand addictions and coulseling those in recovery and is open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Throughout his years of chemical dependency, his time in the spotlight as a cast member of MTV's "Real World Chicago," his work as a Ford Agency model, his speaking engagements across the country, his life as an openly gay man, and the last 12 years in sobriety, a unique personal history has always and continues to inform Christopher Beckman's work as an artist.  In this free workshop, open to everyone regardless of their art background, Beckman will take you on a visual journey through his photography, painting, and sculpture that illustrate his life and gives visual reference to many of the points raised in his recent book.  There will be ample time for questions and answers, with an informal reception to follow.

SUMMARY:Sidewalk Commentary Contest: Chalk-on-the-Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is an annual student contest presented by the IUP College of Fine Arts and the IUP chapter of the National Art Education Association.  Students, student organizations, and IUP classes are encouraged to create a social or political message in chalk between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with colored chalk provided.  Judging will occur between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., with prizes awarded (for IUP student only) starting at 5:00 p.m.  The public is invited to stroll through the Oak Grove to watch students create their drawing and to view the completed work.  (Note:  Rain Date is Wednesday, May 8.)

SUMMARY:Keystone Repertory Theater:  "Last of the Red Hot Lovers"
DESCRIPTION:Meet Barney Cashman, a middle-aged restaurant manager who has a very nice married existence. But he's tired of existing; he wants to live — before it's too late. Maybe one afternoon of passion could be so exhilarating, so vivid, that the memory alone would sate his desire for more. Three women, three afternoons, three shots at living in Technicolor. IUP alumnus Nathaniel Moser directs this oft-overlooked early work of Neil Simon’s; by revealing it’s humanity in a hilarious fashion.Performances will be held May 30-31 and June 1, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m., in the Waller HallStudio Theater.  Tickets will be available in advance at the HUB Box Office approximately 10 days prior to the first show. Tickets will also be sold at the door starting 45 minutes before the performance. Tickets are $14 regular admission, $12 for senior citizens and groups of 15 or more, and $10 with an I-Card.

DESCRIPTION:A collection of works by members of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh.  Free Admission.  This exhibit will run from June 2nd through August 17th.
