    Amenities in the building include:

Elkin offers twenty-four-hour locked entrances. Elkin students have twenty-four-hour access to the front doors of the Northern Suites building so they can access the Living Learning spaces and larger Residential Computing Center.

Although rooms vary in size, the average room is 15' 7" × 11' 11" (188 square feet) with a window measuring 5' 0" × 5' 8" (w × h). The walls in Elkin are plaster with a height slightly over eight feet. The rooms are equipped with:

    • Two dressers
    • Closets
    • Desks, desk chairs, and shelves (for each student)
    • Two trash cans (one for recyclables and the other for regular trash)
    • The window has a pull-down shade
    • Curtains and curtain rods are not provided. We recommend a spring-loaded rod. The size of the opening is 60" wide by 68" high.

The two standard-size twin beds, desks, desk chairs, and dressers can be moved within the room; all other furniture is permanently fixed. The standard bunk bed arrangement is 19" from floor to the top of the lower mattress and 57" from the floor to the top of the upper mattress; this arrangement allows approximately eight inches of clearance under the lower mattress. Each closet has two sliding doors and is complete with two hooks and a clothing rod. Lighting is provided in the room via fluorescent lamps above the desks and overhead on the ceiling.

Students may not return prior to the official opening of the residence hall to paint their rooms.
