Purpose

The Ameila Plantation Resort offers many internships*:

Commercial Recreation

The intern is responsible for planning, implementing, and running various children's programs. The intern will recieve an opportunity to experience preocedures in various departments within the company, attend meetings etc. Emphasis will vary depening on business demand.

Corporate Recreation

The intern is responsible for assiting the managers with all daily operations inclduing program design, set-up, implementation, striking and evaluation, guest relations, group file work, major projects, and minor facility upkeep. Interns will be responsible for attending pertinent meetings and making client calls when necessay. Emphasis will vary depending on business demands including children's programs and holiday activites.

Social Recreation

The intern is responsible for planning, implementing, and running various children's programs. The intern will recieve an opportunity to experience preocedures in various departments within the company, attend meetings etc. Emphasis will vary depening on business demand.

Aquatics/Rentals

The intern is responsible for assisting the Manager, Technicians, and Lifeguards with rentals, pools, facility operations and preventative maintenance. This includes providing a safe, secure, and clean facility, providing excellent customer service, and providing accident prevention, lifesaving and first aid skills. The intern will gain experience with supervision, administration, maintenance, life guarding, pool chemicals and maintenance, programming, safety, and customer service.

Environmental Interpretation

The intern is responsible for assisting the Nature Program Manager and Supervisor in providing guests, club members, property owners, employees, and the general public with programs to better their understanding of the natural environment. They provide consultation for departments in which nature directly affects the work environment such as Golf Course Maintenance, Recreation, etc. The Naturalist staff offers a variety of scheduled and private tours as well as programs within the kids’ camp and works closely with local animal sanctuaries in animal rescues on property. Interns will also assist in the daily operations of the Nature Center Retail Shop and the care and maintenance of animals in the Nature Center.

Lodging

The Lodging intern will learn the various policies, procedures, and systems involved in successful Lodging Management. The intern will rotate through the Transportation Department to prepare for an emphasis in the Front Desk and/or Reservations Departments. Duties include dispatching trams, making room reservations, checking in guests, and handling/solving guest problems. The intern will also participate in various meetings providing exposure to management responsibilities. A 24 week minimum commitment is required.

Housekeeping

The intern will learn the policies, systems, and procedures for Housekeeping. The intern will assist the Housekeeping managers with daily activities by providing the guests, property owners, and employees services that meet departmental standards. Activities include inspecting rooms, supervising housekeeping areas, scheduling, and miscellaneous departmental duties. The intern will also participate in various meetings providing exposure to management responsibilities.

Marketing

The Marketing Department is a fun, ever-changing environment demanding well-rounded individuals with exceptional communication, time management, and creative problem-solving skills. The intern will work throughout the Marketing Department, but primarily with the Promotions and Public Relations managers. Interns work closely with the Food & Beverage, Graphics, Recreation and Retail managers and others in the implementation of new promotions, programs, events, and individual projects. This position may be tailored for the intern to emphasize either public relations or promotions.

Retail

The intern will work primarily with the Retail Operations Manager and the Special Events/Marketing Manager. This internship will offer a total retail operation experience such as assisting the buyers, working in the distribution center, merchandising and assisting with visual displays, promotions and marketing of the stores, creating and assisting with retail special events, point of sale in the stores, as well as participating in some meetings of the senior retail team all with a resort and tourism twist.

Golf Level 1

Amelia’s three scenic courses were designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architects Pete Dye, Bobby Weed and Tom Fazio. The Golf Pro Shops at Amelia Island Plantation carry the latest equipment and fine quality golf fashions for men and women. The golf intern will assist resort and corporate guests, club members, property owners, and employees with services to provide a memorable golf experience. Hours will fluctuate with occupancy and weather, however, business is very strong, especially in the spring.

Turf Management

The Turf Management internship program provides a learning experience for students pursuing a degree in the turf management field. Interns will have the opportunity to experience all phases of golf course maintenance as well as various improvement and construction projects. The Turf Management Intern is expected to provide a high quality product while operating equipment to mow greens, collars, tees, fairways and roughs, raking sand bunkers, changing cups, and performing utilities.

Tennis

The intern is responsible for servicing our members, guests, and employees by participating in all duties within the tennis operation. These will include court maintenance, pro shop duties, tennis instruction, racquet stringing, organization, and implementation of tournaments. The tennis center consists of 23 courts, a pro shop, members’ lounge, and viewing deck.

Culinary

The Culinary Internship allows the student to apply concepts and theories learned in the classroom to the workplace. The student will gain hands on experience in a wide variety of culinary situations including restaurants, banquets, and pastry. Students who qualify and participate in the Culinary Internship Program at Amelia Island Plantation will gain tangible and intangible skills to develop expertise in their area of interest.

Pastry

The Pastry Internship allows the student to apply concepts and theories learned in the classroom to the workplace. The student will gain hands on experience in a wide variety of Pastry situations including weddings, restaurants, private club, banquets and the ice cream shoppe. The student who qualifies and participates in our Pastry Internship Program will gain tangible and intangible skills to develop Pastry and Baking expertise.

Food & Beverage

The Food & Beverage Department consists of restaurant outlets serving all meal periods as well as a French Deli, an Ice Cream Shop, banquets and hospitality departments, beverage carts, lounges, bars and 24-hour Room Service. This allows for ever-changing experiences as the intern assists in the day-to-day operations of several of these areas as well as assists with new promotions, programs, menus, special events, and day-to-day financial concerns. This is a hands-on internship.

Real Estate

The Marketing Department is a fun, ever-changing environment demanding well-rounded individuals with exceptional communication, time management, and creative problem-solving skills. The intern will work through the Real Estate Department, primarily with the Real Estate Marketing manager. Interns also will work closely the Marketing and Retail managers in the implementation of new promotions, programs, events, and individual projects.
