This scholarship is worth up to $7,000 annually and was designed to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and those engineering disciplines that contribute significantly to the technological advances of the United States.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, who served his country for fifty-six years as a soldier and statesman, including thirty years of service in the U.S. Senate. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.
Students may apply in either the sophomore or junior year. Any U.S. citizen who is studying in the sciences, mathematics, or engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA and is in the upper 25 percent of his/her class is eligible to apply.
Students must be nominated by IUP for this award.
