The winning essay will be a compelling reflection on one's own community service that inspires others to transform their own personal experiences through impacting their communities. Essays should be well written and adhere to essay guidelines. Essays that convey depth, sincerity, and convey the transformative nature of service will be looked upon favorably.

Who is eligible to submit an essay?

Any high school sophomore, junior, or senior who has been nominated by their high school.

How many students may a high school nominate?

High schools are limited to the nomination of one student.

Who will be making the decision?

A committee of academic volunteers from a variety of disciplines who value community service in their own lives.

How will prizes be awarded?

You will receive a check sent to your home address. We will also share the news with your high school and local newspaper.

Is the prize money a scholarship?

No, it is a cash prize. A check will be sent to you.

When will you announce the winners?

Contest winners will be announced December 15, 2011.

If I don't win, can you go over my essay with me and explain why not?

It would be impossible to reconvene the committee to review on an individual basis.

Can essays be submitted electronically?

Because you need to submit a signed essay contest form, we would prefer that you mail them.
