Honors Core Requirements

  • Fall Spring

    HNRC 202 may be taken any spring semester after the freshman year.
    HNRC 201 may be taken any fall semester after the freshman year (with permission).     
    HC Elective may be taken in any semester. (ENGL 202 H required for Nursing) 
    HNRC 499 is still on the books as an HC requirement for graduation. Until we undergo curriculum revision, the following are suitable substitutes: a graduate level course, a significant study abroad experience, a second HC elective, an internship, an independent study or honor thesis.  

    HNRC 101, 102, 201 – Replaces the following Humanities requirements. (14 credits of HNRC 101, 102 and 201 replaces 15 credits):

    • ENGL 101 English 1
    • ENGL 121 Humanities Literature
    • HIST (196, 197, 198, - Explorations in U.S./European/World History)
    • Philosophy/Religious Studies Elective (one of the following: PHIL 100, 101, 122, 221, 223 or RLST 100, 110, 250, or 290)
    • Fine Arts Elective (one of the following: ARHI 101, DANC102, FIAR 101, MUHI 101, MUHI 102, THTR 101)

    HNRC 202 – May replace two of the following Natural Science or Social Science requirements. (four credits of HNRC 202 replaces six LS credits) (two of the same is ok).

    • 1 unit of Biology => Natural Science Non-Lab Elective
    • 1 unit of Psychology => Social Science Elective as PSYC 101 (not ECOBIT)
    • 1 unit of Anthropology or Geography => Social Science Elective (Does not count as GMA.)

    Note: Any two of the above can be taken, including two from the same discipline.
