Dr. Baumler studied Modern Chinese History at the University of Illinois. His scholarly interests are opium and, more broadly, the making of citizens in modern China.
"What I enjoy most about teaching in the HC are the many things the students bring to the table. Having a group of students who have diverse interests, but also the intellectual ability to bring these interests into the context of whatever we are discussing, makes for a consistently remarkable classroom."
