The College of Health and Human Services has a variety of academic centers and institutes. They draw on expertise from across the university on specialized or interdisciplinary issues.

Center for Health Promotion and Cardiac Disease Prevention
The Center for Health Promotion and Cardiac Disease Prevention serves IUP and the surrounding community in providing lifestyle interventions through disease and health education programs, personalized fitness/health screenings and assessment, and educational and research opportunities.
Center for Research in Criminology
Conducts and promotes scholarly research in criminology and criminal justice
Community Nutrition Services
Community Nutrition Services (CNS) provides professional training in nutrition intervention to postgraduate dietitians, who, in turn, provide nutrition services to the community through counseling, education, and research activities.
Criminal Justice Training Center
The Criminal Justice Training Center prepares individuals for entry into law enforcement, provides in-service training to current law enforcement personnel, provides preparation and mandatory recertification of lethal weapons training for security personnel, and prepares individuals for certification and recertification as Pennsylvania State Constables. It boasts a full-time police training academy on the IUP main campus and seven regional part-time academy sites.
Highway Safety Center
The Highway Safety Center brings together university personnel from various disciplines and professional backgrounds to solve problems related to highway traffic safety. It provides driver education and improvement programs and first responder and emergency response team training.
Institute for Mine Mapping, Archival Procedures and Safety (IMAPS)
IMAPS is developing a locus of knowledge and expertise at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in archiving, digitally recording, and geographically referencing historical coal mine maps, as well as initiating new mine safety protocols based on the existence of digital mine map data products. Although this center is housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Lon Ferguson of Safety Sciences (Health and Human Services) is a co-director.
Pennsylvania/OSHA Consultation Center
Since 1983, IUP’s Safety Sciences Department has been the officially designated agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for providing occupational and health consultative services made available through federal regulations (29 CFR 1908). The center helps private-sector employers understand and voluntarily comply with safety/health regulations promulgated/enforced by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). It offers a variety of services at no cost to private sector Pennsylvania employers.
