Jeff Dereume, a 2008 Geoscience graduate IUP STUDENTS INTERN AT EQT Jeff Dereume, a 2008 Energy Resources Track graduate, is the geoscience lead for EQT's northern West Virginia Marcellus activity. He says, "We've brought several students from the Geoscience Department to work as interns at EQT. I know the IUP program is strong; I know it's a good pool of students to draw from."

What You'll do in the BS in Geology/Energy Resources Track

By pursuing the energy resources track within the geology major, you'll have an education that allows you to discover and develop new energy resources.

With IUP located in the heart of the Marcellus shale region, you'll gain extensive first-hand experience of working in the field in the natural gas industry in Western Pennsylvania.

Core geoscience courses, such as Geophysics and Surficial Processes will help you get a head start in the field. Free electives will give you the chance to add an internship, independent study, or classes from other departments.

Your technology and laboratory training continues in facilities including the Geochemistry Research Laboratory and Structural Geology and Tectonics Laboratory, among others.

You'll be well prepared for direct entry into the energy industry with a focus on the discovery and development of energy resources and geophysical exploration techniques.
