Geoscience Alumna Kutchko Appointed to Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Technical Advisory Board

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has named an IUP Geoscience Department graduate, Barbara (Osgood) Kutchko, as one of nine members on a new advisory board that will help draft regulations for the oil and gas industry.

Geoscience Student Barber Accepted to Okeanos Explorer in Training Program

Michael Barber, an undergraduate student in Geoscience, was recently accepted to participate in the oceanography research program aboard the Okeanos Explorer, the nation’s only federally operated vessel dedicated to ocean exploration.

Geoscience Students and Faculty Present Research at American Geophysical Union International Meeting

The Geoscience Department was well represented at the fall 2014 American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting in San Francisco this past December. Presentations by Sierra Davis, a current undergraduate, plus many faculty were combined with time for networking with former IUP students.

Hovan and Three Geoscience Students To Embark On Atlantic Ocean Research Expedition

Steve Hovan and undergraduate students Sierra Davis, Michael Barber, and Jules Dill will join scientists on a five-week oceanographic research expedition to assess how deep ocean current circulation has changed since the last glacial ice age and the influence this has on global climates.

Geoscience Department faculty member Greg Mount co-published “Estimating porosity and solid dielectric permittivity in the Miami Limestone using high-frequency ground penetrating radar (GPR) measurements at the laboratory scale.”
