Steve Hovan, Department of Geosciences, presented his research at the 2010 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Hovan and his colleagues at the University of California–Santa Cruz have been investigating the paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions of our planet through the use of deep sea sediments.

Geoscience undergraduate student Ellen Lamont has been working with Dr. Jon Lewis on an NSF-funded project to understand earthquake-related deformation in the rocks of central Taiwan. Dr. Lewis is presenting this research at the National meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco on December 18, 2009.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., students from the IUP Stellar Astronomy class will present “Astronomy Short Stories,” a series of several short presentations in the IUP Planetarium. These include a look at orbiting telescopes, deep space objects, the sky of the arctic North, and finding the way out of the woods using astronomy. The show is free and open to the public.
