Geoscience Faculty and Students Present at 2016 AGU Fall Meeting

Faculty members Jon Lewis and Greg Mount, along with students Allie Berry, Cate Bressers and Aaron Seidel, will travel to San Francisco during the fall 2016 finals week to present at the American Geophysical Union fall meeting.

IUP Adds New Seismometer to Pennsylvania Network of Seismic Stations

IUP's seismometer is part of Penn State University's PASEIS network and one of about 42 stations installed across the state to help identify the magnitude, location, and timing of earthquakes in the area.

Geoscience Mineral Sale, November 14–17 in Weyandt Hall

Minerals, fossils, shells, polished stones, and jewelry will be on sale Monday through Thursday in the Weyandt Hall Planetarium Lobby. The annual sale is the main fund-raising activity of the Geological Society of IUP club and supports student activities such as field trips, museum visits, and club events.

Lewis and 10 Undergraduates Complete Six-Day Ocean Research Expedition

On August 17, 2016, Jon Lewis departed from Seattle, Washington, on the research vessel Sikuliaq bound for Seward, Alaska, with three co-mentors and a cohort of 10 undergraduate students from across the U.S. who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) research and careers.

Schedule of Free Planetarium Shows Announced for 2016–17

A look into how humans live and work in space today and what the future holds is the kickoff for this year’s free Planetarium shows, starting Monday, November 7, as Ken Coles of the Geoscience Department presents on the human presence in Earth orbit.

Coles Shares the Sky at White House Frontiers Conference in Pittsburgh

Ken Coles, Geoscience, participated in Astronomy Night at Allegheny Observatory, part of the White House Frontiers Conference in Pittsburgh, on October 13, 2016. Conference participants, students, and members of the public observed the heavens through telescopes, including one set up by Coles.
