Nutrition Expo: Put Your Best Fork Forward

March is National Nutrition Month, so to celebrate, the IUP Dietetic Interns are putting on an expo in the HUB using this year’s theme, “Put your best fork forward.”  You will be taken on a food journey through the USDA’s MyPlate, showing how this free tool can be utilized in everyday eating and cooking.  Cooking demonstrations will begin at 12:05 p.m. There will also be food samples for attendees to try, while supplies last. Attendance vouchers will be available. Attendees who interact with all of the MyPlate stations can be entered to win a Chili Tasting for Two at the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics’ (S.A.N.D) Chili Cook-off which begins at 3:00 p.m.

National Nutrition Month - S.A.N.D. Chili Cook-Off

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (S.A.N.D.) would like to invite you to participate in our 1st annual National Nutrition Month Chili Cook-Off! The event will take place in the HUB Susquehanna room on March 7 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. If you would like to show off your cooking skills, make a crockpot of chili that meets the requirements listed in the rules (all chili must include two sources of plant-based protein--see suggested list on registration form) and enter to see if yours is the best! There are over $200 in prizes that will be awarded to the winners! The cost of entry is $20 per team. A team can consist of 1-5 people. We encourage departmental teams, student organization teams, and teams of both faculty and students. If cooking is not your forte, we could still use your help! For $1 you can come sample chili during the event and vote for your favorite recipe! Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Indiana Food Co-Op, a local initiative to increase the availability of local, healthy food.
The first 20 teams to get their entry forms and fee submitted are guaranteed a spot at the event. All entry forms and entry fees are due by Tuesday, February 21 to Julie Williams in Ackerman room 102. A copy of your recipe must be submitted by Monday, February 27. This can be emailed to Molly Moroney, chair of the National Nutrition Month committee (m.c.moroney@iup.edu). Be sure to get your information in as soon as possible so you are guaranteed a spot in the competition!

Adam Burda is an IUP alumni who earned his degree bachelors degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics track, and a minor in Psychology. He will speak about his inspirational weight loss journey. Burda has lost over 100 pounds and has succeeded in maintaining it. He will be speaking on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, room 126.
