The Biggest Loser was a competition that ran for several years, sponsored by the James G. Mill Center for Health and Fitness. The last competition was in 2011.
Each year, the management and staff at the James G. Mill Fitness Center holds the Biggest Loser competition for our community. The goal of this event is to promote health and fitness amongst our clients.
In our society today, the continual increase in the stresses of our daily lives can have a negative impact on our health. With this program, we hope to use the knowledge of our profession to create a sound understanding of physical activity, encourage healthy weight loss practices, and significantly make a positive impact on our community.
This year, the competition will run eight weeks, September 26 through November 18, and the entry fee is $15. Non-members who decide they would like to join the Fitness Center for the duration of the competition will pay an additional $20.
Sign-ups for this event will last until September 26. When signing up, contestants will also register for a specific time to have their initial BMI measurements taken. Contestants will also receive a sign-up package explaining different rules, regulations, nutritional information, timelines, etc.
Resources such as our facility, nutritional assessments and private counseling with IUP’s dietetic interns, and individualized fitness and wellness programs will be available to the contestants. Also, the Fitness Center staff will assist you in any way they can with questions regarding nutrition and workouts. Our Exercise Science graduate assistant, Jess Kalinowski, will be available if you would like a customized workout program. If this interests you, please feel free to contact her.
Prizes will be awarded to one man and one woman with the greatest percentage of fat loss. Prizes include a one-year membership to the Fitness Center and a fitness gift basket.
We hope to see you out for this special event! Who knows, maybe you can become our Biggest Loser this year!
