EMT—Basic Training Program
The IUP Division of Emergency Services Training announces the start of the 2010 Fall Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) Training Program. This is a 128-hour course intended to prepare the participant to deliver prehospital emergency medical care. The EMT-B course is designed for individuals desiring to work on an ambulance as well as others who may be in positions where emergency medical training would be beneficial. This would include immediate response personnel (IRP), rescue personnel, coal miners, allied health professionals, EMS dispatchers, safety professionals, school nurses, nursing majors interested in becoming a prehospital R.N., etc.

Preregistration is required. Anyone interested in attending should complete the enrollment form below and return it with a $100 nonrefundable deposit by January 12. Please make checks payable to IUP. Enrollment is limited and will be accepted until the class is filled. IUP reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment, at which time deposit/registration fees would be refunded.

2009 Basic Vehicle Rescue (Awareness/Operations/Technician)
The Division of Emergency Services Training announces the start of the 2009 Fall Basic Vehicle Rescue course. The course is designed as a 52-hour basic-level training program which will prepare fire, rescue, and emergency medical personnel in the skills and knowledge necessary to perform a safe and efficient vehicle rescue operation. The class utilizes both classroom instruction and field practical sessions where the student will develop skill proficiency through the hands-on practice of rescue techniques. The course will be registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy. Students that successfully meet all course requirements will be certified as a Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician. Students must be eighteen years of age by the first day of class! This program consists of the awareness, operations, and technician modules.

Students will be expected to provide a full set of personal protective clothing and equipment (i.e., helmet, coat, pants or approved extrication coveralls, gloves, and eye protection) for the field practical sessions. Class size will be limited to a maximum of thirty (30) students. Registration is held on a first-come, first-served basis. A $50 nonrefundable registration fee must accompany each student enrollment form and be received no later than September 9. The balance of $60 will be payable in full at the first class session on September 15. Checks should be made payable to IUP. IUP reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment.
Note: This course may also be used for current EMTs/first responders as twenty-eight (28) Department of Health ConEd hours.
