About Our Faculty

Dr. Kerr teaching English Education students

OPEN AND INTERACTIVE  While each English track is challenging and specialized, the learning environment is open and interactive. Chairs are often pushed back, as in Professor JoAnne Kerr’s class, to encourage students to share their perspectives.

Our faculty bring a great diversity of expertise in subject matter, methods, and purposes to the vital and constantly evolving field of English

English is one of the largest and most respected departments at IUP. Over 50 English faculty bring a high level of scholarly knowledge and enthusiasm to their teaching.

As a result, students receive an extraordinary breadth of expertise from a group of scholars who are recognized nationally and internationally as authorities in their specialties.

  • Their first priority is teaching. While they publish extensively, their main focus is always on teaching their students. Many of our faculty have won IUP campus and national teaching awards.
  • All English majors work with an advisor from the English Department.
  • Our faculty is engaged not only in the classroom, but also with many activities that serve the university and greater community. Learn more about the department’s centers, institutes and projects.
