IUP has long-standing, internationally recognized graduate programs.
Our graduate programs have strong reputations because they involve thirty-two dedicated and experienced faculty members, a culturally diverse population of students, a curriculum that supports teacher-scholars, and high rates of completion.
Doctoral Level
We offer two doctoral programs in English, one in Composition and TESOL and one in Literature and Criticism. Both programs lead to the Ph.D. degree in English. A survey by the Modern Language Association found IUP’s doctoral programs in English to be among the most successful in employment for their graduates.
Master’s Level
IUP also offers four different concentrations in its Master of Arts degree in English. All of our M.A. programs require 36 credit hours. The 36 hours consist of coursework (twelve courses). A thesis is optional. Each program has its own set of requirements and admissions policies. The concentrations respond to the specific needs of four groups of students:
