    Areas of Interest: Nineteenth and twentieth-century American literature with a focus on the Civil War and literature of the American South  
    Other Positions: Member of the Faulkner Society and the College English Association

    Matthew is a first-year PhD candidate who has served as an officer on EGO for three years, having also spent the past two years earning his master’s in Literature from IUP. His devoted involvement in EGO over the years and enthusiasm for the English Department have inspired him to take on the task of improving the English department’s community and reaching out to other graduate students through the organization. As president of the organization, Matthew holds the responsibility of ensuring that meetings are held, goals are accomplished, EGO events take place (both academic and social), and that there is EGO involvement with both the IUP and Indiana community.

    Areas of Interest: Transnational Feminism, Ecological Justice, and the convergence of sexuality and citizenship with a focus on Caribbean literature
    Other Positions: Part-time faculty member at IUP (teaches ENGL101 and ENGL121)
    Publications/Presentations: Upcoming dissertation on Caribbean women’s literature, which will explore corpse imagery as a form of commodification and regulation of women’s bodies and the environment

    Lauren is a fourth-year PhD candidate who has served as an officer on EGO for three years. Her involvement in EGO has been an important part of her professionalization as well as a valuable avenue for making friends in the English department. Her experiences as an officer have led her to become the organization’s vice president, where she continues to bring fresh ideas to the table and provide other graduate students with many opportunities for professional development, including the EGO Conference at IUP in the spring. Outside of academia, Lauren loves goats, science fiction, dancing, and her nephew, Rowan.

    Publications/Presentations: A feature in the Penn on her presentation for the Critical Play Colloquium that looked at Final Fantasy 7 and Psychoanalysis

    Eliza is a fourth-year PhD candidate who earned her master’s at IUP and her bachelor’s at Lock Haven. She has been actively involved in EGO for several years and continues to strive towards community outreach within and outside the department. As secretary, Eliza sees that all the goals of EGO are met and met efficiently. She will also be hosting EGO’s annual book sale in October. In her spare time, Eliza enjoys gaming, watching cartoons, and reading comics.

    Other Positions: Tutor at IUP’s Writing Center and associate editor for the Crimson Quill

    Rob is a fourth-year PhD candidate who has been actively involved in EGO throughout his time at the university. He currently serves as both treasurer and social events coordinator of the organization, overseeing the organization's funds and planning EGO events. He has many exciting events planned for the year, so keep your eyes peeled for the next social gathering for English graduate students!

    EGO Historian Kaitlin Tonti Historian

    Areas of Interest: Early American literature with an emphasis on women writers of the 17th and 18th centuries, and Early American representation in popular culture
    Other Positions: Graduate assistant in the English Department
    Publications: A forthcoming essay in an anthology on the Artemis archetype and popular culture

    Kaitlin is a second-year PhD candidate who earned both her BA and MA from Seton Hall University. Kaitlin has been actively involved in the academic community, having presented at several conferences and attended many departmental events during her time here. These experiences have led her to take on the role of historian, making her EGO’s official memory-keeper. Through this position, she hopes to bring motivation, fellowship, and some fresh ideas to the table. In her free time, Kaitlin enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew, hanging out with friends, and watching way too much TV.

    Other Positions: Teaching Associate at IUP and former graduate assistant for the English department

    Rodney is a third-year PhD candidate who also obtained his master’s degree from IUP, making this his fifth year as a graduate student. In that time, he has held several positions on EGO, helping to improve the organization’s goals and outreach. Currently, he serves as the organization’s workshop coordinator, planning many workshops throughout the year for students that will aid them in their professional development and success at IUP.

    Wesley is a third-year PhD candidate who is actively involved in both the academic and social community. Not only will Wesley be serving as EGO’s public relations officer, he will also be a part-time teacher on the English faculty and will continue to be the host of Indiana’s exciting monthly event, Lit Night at the Artist’s Hand.     EGO Webmaster Madeline Jobczynski Webmaster

    Program: Teaching English, MA
    Areas of Interest: Children’s and Young Adult Literature, Multicultural Literature, Dystopian Literature, and Reader Response Theory
    Other Positions: Test proctor and peer advisor at IUP’s Advising and Testing Center and former graduate assistant for the English Department
    Publications/Presentations: A collaborative article in Black and Grey magazine that explored the sensory experiences of someone with synesthesia, and a presentation in October 2015 at the PAC-TE Conference on her recent research on the effects of peer review in high schools

    Madeline is a second-year MA student who has been attending IUP for six years, as she also obtained her bachelor’s degree in English from the university. This is her first year as an officer on EGO, though she has had some experience in website maintenance and design. Madeline’s role as a peer advisor has kept her involved in student recruitment for many years, which led her to take on the role of webmaster for EGO. Outside of academia, Madeline loves watching Buffy and Supernatural, reading horror books, cats, and DIY crafting.
