The English Department at IUP is one of the largest and most respected at the university. Over 50 full-time professors, all with doctoral degrees from the world’s leading universities, bring an enthusiasm and a high level of scholarly knowledge to the courses they teach. As a result, students receive an extraordinary breadth of expertise from a group of scholars who are recognized nationally and internationally as authorities in their specialties.

  • Their first priority is teaching. While they publish books with leading academic presses and publish articles in highly regarded journals, their main focus is always on teaching their students.
  • All English graduate students work with an advisor from the English Department
  • Our faculty is engaged not only in the classroom, but also with the many activities that serve the university and greater community.
