Regardless of the program students choose, the college enables them to acquire theoretical, practical, and technological knowledge and skills required to become outstanding professionals. Faculty members are teacher-scholars who are dedicated to excellence in the classroom and continued research in their fields of study.

The College ofEducation and Communications majors all receive extensive experiential learning opportunities. Undergraduate educator preparation majors receive early field experiences prior to student teaching, and the Educator Preparation Office collaborates with school districts to develop Professional Development School and other partnerships.

Career and Technical Personnel Preparation

The Center for Career and Technical Personnel Preparation offers professional certificate and degree programs that prepare career and technical teachers and administrators to receive required state certifications.

Communication Disorders, Special Education, and Disability Services

The department houses a unique blend of interrelated programs of study: Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, Disability Services, and Special Education.

Communications Media

The Department of Communications Media prepares students to work in all fields of media: television and film production, audio recording, radio broadcasting, photography, graphic design, animation, games and simulations, media promotions, research, project management, consulting, scriptwriting, and instructional design.

Counseling

IUP’s counseling programs blend academic coursework, personal development, and practical application of counseling strategies to build the foundation necessary for an excellent career.

Professional Studies in Education

The Professional Studies in Education Department is committed to high-quality scholarship for pre-service and in-service educators with programs that include Early Childhood Education with Special Education and Middle Level Math Education.

Student Affairs in Higher Education

The Student Affairs in Higher Education Department at IUP is designed to prepare graduate students for employment in higher education in entry-level or mid-management student affairs positions, dependent upon their previous experiences.

IUP offers degrees leading to teacher certification in more than 30 areas.
