What must I do to take classes on line?

To take any courses at IUP, you must first be enrolled at IUP as a student, either as a full-time, part-time, or visiting student. In order to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student, you must be admitted by the Admissions Office. Undergraduate visiting students simply fill in the short application and mail it to the School of Continuing Education with the fee. Graduate students may apply for admission through the Graduate School or fill in a One-Course-Only form to enroll for one or two courses in the first semester prior to applying for a degree program.

Do I have to come to the IUP campus before enrolling in on-line courses?

No. All applications and enrollment processes are completed on line for your convenience.

How do I make changes to an application that was submitted on line?

Make changes to the application, print, and send or fax to IUP.

Does the on-line format provide the same quality of education offered by a traditional campus?

Yes. Numerous students have proven that e-learners perform as well or better than their on-campus counterparts. On-line education is very similar to classroom study in that on-line students have weekly readings, assignements, final papers, and focused exchange of ideas with the professor and fellow classmates. Like classroom students, on-line students use textbooks and library materials to support their learning.

Can I take one or two courses and transfer the credit to another college?

Yes—but you should obtain permission from your current college, then attend IUP as a visiting student. If there are prerequisites, a transcript of recent grades in the prerequisite courses must be provided. An official or unofficial transcript or grade report will be accepted.

Must I enter a degree program to take Distance Education courses?

No. Although two complete degree programs are offered on the master's level, you may take single courses by following directions above and selecting on-line courses that have an 800 series section number.
