What must I do to take classes online?
To take any courses at IUP, you must first be enrolled at IUP as a student, either as a full-time, part-time, or visiting student. In order to enroll as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student, you must be admitted by the Admissions Office. Undergraduate visiting students simply fill in the short application and mail it to the Office of Distance Learning and Continuing Education with the application fee. Graduate students may apply for admission through the Graduate School, or fill in a One-Course-Only form to enroll for one or two courses in the first semester prior to applying for a degree program.
Do I have to come to the IUP campus before enrolling in online courses?
No. All application forms are available online, and enrollment processes can be completed at a distance via e-mail and telephone for your convenience.
Does the online format provide the same quality of education offered by a traditional campus?
Yes. Numerous students have proven that e-learners perform as well or better than their on-campus counterparts. Online education is very similar to classroom study in that online students have weekly readings, assignments, final papers, and focused exchange of ideas with the professor and fellow classmates. Like classroom students, online students use textbooks and library materials to support their learning.
I'm attending another college. Can I take one or two courses and transfer the credit?
Yes—but you should obtain permission from your current college. IUP course work is generally transferable to other institutions. You should work with your institution before you schedule courses with IUP to ensure they're transferable.
Do I have to enter a degree program to take distance education courses?
No. Although IUP offers complete online degree programs at the master’s level, you may take individual graduate and undergraduate courses by following the directions above and selecting online courses that have an 800 series section number.
