CUSP Early Entrance Experience

The College Undergraduate Success Program (CUSP) Early Entrance Experience is an early entrance freshman experience for first-year students sponsored by the Department of Developmental Studies and scheduled during the week before fall semester.

The experience includes enrollment in the one-credit course Introduction to Higher Education (DVST 150), workshops, seminars, a common reading experience, tours, and other informational and social activities.

Many times, students experience difficulties adjusting to college. People may have already told you, "College is not like high school!" But what is college like? Are you nervous about where to go and what to do? Do you wonder what classes will be like? Do you know how to be successful in college?

Studies show that when students are given an early, formal introduction to college, they are more likely to experience satisfaction and to graduate. Colleges and universities often offer seminars to students during the freshman year, when students especially need support, knowledge, and skills.

IUP is offering a pre-college program to a limited number of first-year students through the Department of Developmental Studies. The program is called CUSP: The Early Entrance Experience and is designed to help you make a satisfactory transition to the college experience and to enhance your chances for academic success.

CUSP Will Include the Following:

  1. A one-week early arrival to campus with early check-in for fall housing assignments (Saturday, August 16)
  2. Enrollment in a one-credit class, DVST 150: Introduction to Higher Education (for graduating credit)
  3. Workshops, tours, and other informational activities
  4. Social activities

Students will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment is limited!
