Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Developmental Studies is to help undergraduate students prepare, succeed, and excel in their college curriculum. This is accomplished through the following programs:
- Comprehensive First-Year Experience for freshman students matriculating through the Department of Developmental Studies. This includes developmental advising with a professional educational advisor, credit-bearing freshman module courses linked to academic support sessions, and peer advising with trained upper-class students.
- Credit-bearing courses:
- Developmental courses in mathematics and reading
- Learning enhancement courses in mathematics and critical reading
- College success courses in introduction to higher education, college learning strategies, and career development
- A course to prepare undergraduates in roles as paraprofessionals
- College Undergraduate Success Program (CUSP), an early entrance freshman experience for first-year students, scheduled during the week before Fall term
- Center for Learning Enhancement, peer-led academic support sessions (Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, and noncredit Workshops)
