If you’re still making up your mind about your major, you’re in good company. The majority of students entering IUP have two or three different fields they would like to explore before making up their minds. That’s why IUP offers students an extensive list of undergraduate programs to choose from, the time they need to decide on a major, and an array of support services to help with their decision.

Match your interests with a major by using Major Match.

Our Major and Career Exploration Center (MCEC) offers a variety of ways for you to decide on your major(s) and discover the career paths that best match your specific interests, talents, and skills.

These include:

Majors Fair: The IUP Majors Fair is a perfect opportunity for students to browse through the various programs of study offered at IUP. Representatives from various departments will be on hand to answer your questions and perhaps suggest a career you’ve never considered.

Focus II: This computer-based program measures your values and interests and matches them with occupations for you to consider.

Interest Inventories:  Through the Strong Interest Inventory and the Self-Directed Search, your interests will be measured as they relate to potential career opportunities.

Career Counselors: Take advantage of free one-on-one counseling sessions with professionals trained in helping students explore careers and identifying the majors that are right for them.

Resource Library: A comprehensive collection of all the reading material and other resources you need to locate your career path and program of study.

ADVT 170 “Career Exploration”: This one-credit course is designed to enable students to actively explore a variety of majors and learn about career resources at IUP. Students must have permission to enroll in this class from the assistant director of the Advising and Testing Center.
