The Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology has long been one of the most popular areas of study among Indiana University of Pennsylvania undergraduates. The program is designed to integrate a body of knowledge drawn from other behavioral sciences while concentrating on the explanation of criminal behavior and administration of criminal justice. The program provides excellent preparation for a variety of careers or further education in law school or graduate school programs.
The Criminology Pre-Law major prepares students for the application to law school. The Pre-Law track centers upon a carefully developed interdisciplinary minor.
Students may minor in Information Assurance through a collaboration with Computer Science. Criminology courses include Cybersecurity and Loss Prevention and Cybersecurity and the Law.
Graduate Education
The Department of Criminology offers a program of study leading to a Master of Arts in Criminology. For more than twenty years, the program has prepared students for administrative and research careers in the criminal justice system and related fields. The Criminology M.A. program also provides a solid foundation for students planning to pursue doctoral studies.
A part-time evening program is also offered at the Monroeville Center in Wilkins Township.
IUP’s Ph.D. in Criminology integrates the study of theory, research, justice systems, and pedagogy. The program utilizes a Preparing Future Faculty approach, which promotes teaching excellence and a balanced teacher/scholar model.
The Criminology Department offers internship opportunities through a number of criminal justice sites. Past students have completed internships at federal, state, county, municipal, and private sites.
