Sometimes concerns are better addressed through group counseling than with an individual counselor. There are still openings in two of the Counseling Center's groups for this semester: the Interpersonal Group and the “Not Just Straight” Group.

The Counseling Center at the Center for Health and Well-Being is offering a workshop, “Gender and Sexuality: Not Just Straight,” on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, from 3:15–4:15 p.m. in Room G60, Suites on Maple East.

A great deal of information has been in the news recently related to the allegations of sexual abuse at Penn State. In light of the recent media attention to sexual abuse, IUP faculty and staff may be hearing more from students who are experiencing distress related to the abuse they have experienced.

David Myers, of the Counseling Center, presented “Motivational Interviewing as a Framework for Rogerian Theory: Putting Theory into Practice” at the convention of the American Psychological Association on August 4, 2011.

The IUP Counseling Center has been reaccredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc., an organization of American, Canadian, and Australian counseling agencies.
