The IUP Center for Counselor Training and Services will offer a one-day workshop on self-injurious behaviors as the first of its Fall 2009 professional development series, delivered by two noted experts in the field on Friday, November 13, 2009, in Monroeville.

John McCarthy, professor in the Department of Counseling, has been selected to participate in the International Academic Fellowship Program.

At the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision conference in Columbus, Ohio, John McCarthy of the Department of Counseling presented the coathored paper “Promoting Professional Development Among Students and Professional Counselors.”

At the 2009 conference of the Canadian Counseling Association, Dr. John McCarthy of the Department of Counseling presented “Teen Depression and Suicide: Current Issues and Future Directions.”

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Counselor Training and Services will present a workshop May 8 on autism. The one-day event, Autism: From Research to Clinical Practice, will be offered at IUP’s Eberly Auditorium by Dr. Antonio Hardan.

Dr. John McCarthy of the Department of Counseling presented “Protective and Preventative Factors in Suicide” as the keynote speech to the conference of the Westmoreland County (Pa.) Task Force on Suicide (Greensburg, Pa.) in November 2008.

Dr. John McCarthy presented “Let’s Get Entrepreneurial” (45-minute) at the October 2008 conference of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association in State College, Pa., copresented with Teresa Fernandes, B.A.
