Abstract Acrylic Painting

Immerse yourself in a painterly world of abstraction. You’ll be introduced to color mixing and the qualities of a good painting. Techniques include monoprinting, glazing, and collage in acrylic paint. This class is designed for beginners and also for advanced painters who wish to try new things. You will enjoy taking to the dance floor after taking this workshop. Classes will include two hours of learning activities and one hour of individual couple practice and individual help. Take one class, or all four! Come and join the fun. (A partner is preferred, but not required.)

Basket-Weaving Series

This series consists of eight beginner baskets that can each be completed in one evening; the second set of eight baskets will each need two evenings to complete, with the last two baskets being the most difficult. Anyone who enjoys creating an original, usable basket will love these offerings! Participants may sign up for as many classes as they wish. Each class is $35, or any three for $85. If you register for either all of the first eight, or all of the second eight, the fee is $245. All materials will be provided by the instructor. The supply fee is listed with each class description and should be paid to the instructor at the beginning of each class.

Instructor: Kimberly Benigni has taught basket classes for twenty years in a variety of settings including adult classes in churches, technical schools, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, schools, and fundraising. She was co-owner of an Illinois basketry business called Woven Hearts.

Ghost Hunting: For the Curious Beginner

Would you like to learn about the theory, science, and speculation related to the existence of ghosts? You will look at video and photographs and will listen to EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena) captured during local ghost investigations. Explore the role that psychics, sensitivities, mediums, technology, and common sense play in ghost investigations. Navigating Pattern Instructions

You’re not alone if you feel frustrated trying to read and follow the instructions that accompany commercial sewing patterns. This course is for any level of sewer who has become disenchanted with sewing because of the confusion experienced when trying to interpret pattern instructions. This course addresses common symbols, procedures, basic concepts associated with assembling a sewn product, problems associated with navigating through pattern instructions, and alternatives to the techniques and directions that accompany a commercial pattern. Knocking Off Your Favorite Garment

“Knocking off” a garment is an accepted form of patternmaking in the apparel industry. This technique takes a premade garment and through the process of disassembling or “rubbing off,” a like copy is developed. Students will use one of their own garments and work through this process in order to create a sewing pattern from their favorite garment. Students should bring a supply of muslin, pins, and the garment they wish to copy to class.

Learn the ancient physical practice of Hatha Yoga and how its techniques can enhance your busy life. This class will focus on postures that will strengthen and stretch legs, arms, and abdominal muscles, as well as enable you to relax and release daily tensions. This class will be suitable for beginning as well as advanced yoga practitioners. (Bring a mat or blanket.)

Instructor:  Carolyn Trimarchi has been a certified Hatha Yoga instructor since 1982 and continues learning current yoga disciplines, including traditional, Iyengar, and Kripalu. She has given presentations and lectures about Hatha Yoga throughout the community.
