Childhood Obesity Risk: Understanding the Crisis...Weighing the Solutions

Indiana University of Pennsylvania continues its"IUP Cares" initiative with a special program on childhood obesity, featuring internationally known experts in the field of childhood health and wellness.
This program is appropriate for all persons concerned about the health and wellness of our children.
The event is being held on April 18th, 2008 in the Ohio Room, Hadley Union Building. Check in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration can be made via e-mail to IUP-Cares@iup.edu or via phone at 724-357-2227. If you would like to receive a brochure, please call Conference Services at 724-357-2227.
Registration is Free but please register by April 14 to ensure that sufficient materials are available.
Act 48 credit is available for a fee of $25 at check-in. Approval has also been requested for 5 CEU's for Registered Dieticians.

JULY 7 - 11, 2008
CLAY AND THE ART OF CERAMICS will be offered this year for two different age groups: Ages 9-12, and also ages 13-17. Participants in both classes will explore the material from a creative and imaginative point of view and become exposed to the processes involved with the glazing, firing and finishing of ceramic objects. Clay and studio will be limited to class hours only. Please note space limitations for each class; children must be registered by June 23, 2008.
Ages 9-12: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon (space is limited to 10)
Ages 13-17: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm (space is limited to 12)
REGISTRATION FEE: $75.00 check made payable to IUP for each class
SUPPLY FEE: $20.00 check made payable to IUP Ceramics (take to first class)
INSTRUCTOR: Katie Fishbein is a Graduate Assistant in the IUP Master of Arts program. Katie has been a potter for
several years.

ADULT POTTERY
Vent your creative energy in exploring the medium of clay. You'll learn techniques and procedures for both wheel thrown and hand formed objects allowing you to explore your own ideas, shapes and forms in clay. At the end of the course you will have a collection of original artwork to take home. Space is limited to the first 16 registrants. Registration deadline is June 23, 2008.
DATE: Begins July 8, 2008. Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday for 4 weeks.
TIME: 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.
REGISTRATION FEE: $130.00 check made payable to IUP.

JULY 14-18, 2008 - YOUNG NATURALIST OUTDOOR ADVANTURE CAMP (ages 8-12)
The Young Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camp is being held at the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. COST IS $210.00. To register or receive a brochure, please email mary@iup.edu.
The focus of the Young Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camp is for participants to be safely introduced to outdoor adventure, to receive an environmental education, and to complete an enhancement project.
