IUP Community Music School

IUP Community Music SchoolThe IUP Community Music School, located in Cogswell Hall, provides noncredit private lessons, ensembles, and classes in music to students of all ages in the Indiana community.

Our spring 2015 session officially begins on Monday, January 26, one week after the start of the IUP fall semester, and will continue through May 8. Some classes and ensembles will begin slightly outside of these dates, so be sure to check the schedule carefully for the start of the class or ensemble that you're interested in.

Spring offerings will continue to include private lessons on all instruments with various levels of instructors, ensembles, and piano and guitar classes.

We are also continuing our popular Saturday program for newborns through age 5, Musikgarten, a program of instruction with its roots in the Kindermusik system and Montessori School. Using all-natural Musikgarten products, these Saturday morning classes guide a parent and child through a variety of music and movement activities designed to nurture the musical aptitude found in all children. Sign up early as these three levels of classes—Family Music for Babies: Spring Session for New and Returning Families (newborn–18 months); Family Music for Toddlers: Sing with Me, Dance with Me (18 months–three years); and Cycle of Seasons: Wind Dances, Sun Catchers (ages three to five years)—will fill up quickly and have limited room. Note: If you participated in the fall, the spring curriculum is a continuation, not a repeat of the fall.

New Ensemble! Utilizing the talent of graduate assistant Jessica Zelenack and faculty member Dr. Laura Ferguson, we're excited to offer a Vocal Jazz Choir this semester.  Be sure to see the ensemble page for additional information.

Spring 2015 Registration Open!

Registration for all classes, ensembles, and lessons is officially open and will be until January 26. Note: Registration for all ensembles and lessons is flexible and ongoing throughout the semester; most parent and students are starting private lessons the week of January 5 after the holiday season when schools are back in session. If you are interested in any of our three ensembles—Indiana Community Chorus, Indiana Symphonic Winds (Band), Crimson Children’s Chorus—or in taking lessons, be sure to use the “Register Now” button below if you’re new to the IUP Community Music School, or e-mail community-music@iup.edu to let us know if you have already participated.
