Basic Training for Web Maintainers

This training session is oriented toward those who are new to Ektron, or those who need a refresher.

In this session, you will be introduced to Ektron (the content management system), and learn the basics of how to use it to maintain your site, from updating pages to creating a news post or calendar event. The list of topics covered includes:

  • What Ektron Is
  • Logging In
  • Working with Workflow
  • Posting News
  • Posting Events
  • Following Best Practices
  • Web Maintainer Responsibilities

We cover some of the more advanced topics—adding new pages, collections, menus, adding new sections to a website—in intermediate-level training.

New Intermediate Web Training: Working with Pages and Layouts

This intermediate-level training is a follow up to Basic Content Editing, and is intended for web maintainers who have already completed that workshop (or who already have equivalent skills).

During this session participants will learn:

  • How to use PageBuilder to:
    • Adjust content on an existing page layout
    • Add new content to a page layout
    • Create a new page layout
  • How to work with collections and sticky news
  • How the menu system works

Note: This workshop is for websites that have already been converted to the new IUP website design. If your website has not yet been converted, you should take the Intermediate Training for Web Maintainers instead—although you are welcome to take this training in advance of your site being converted.

Intermediate Training for Web Maintainers (unconverted sites)

  • How our current navigation design operates
  • How to properly link new pages into the menu system
  • How to work with collections

Social Media Workshop: Time Management

Hear from Christine Baker, faculty member in the Department of History, about how she manages the History Department social media accounts and how it fits it into her already busy schedule. Emily Smith will then discuss easy content strategy, content curation, and helpful applications.

Social Media Training: Twitter

Stabley, Room 101

We will look at the Twitter platform, explain terminology like “tweets,” “retweets,” “likes,” “DM,” and others, as well as understand how users see you and interact with each other.

Other topics include how to shorten links, add pictures or video, and build a follower base. This workshop is for beginners.
