To set the tone for academic excellence, IUP offers a common reading program to all new students. Each student receives a copy of the chosen book and is invited to read it before the start of the school year.
The 2008–2009 Common Freshman Reader Selection Committee is proud to announce the title for next year’s program: Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell.
The IUP Libraries has assembled a collection of resources about the book.
During the 2008-2009 school year, students will be encouraged to attend programming related to the book. While the common reading program is voluntary, faculty members are invited to obtain copies of Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking from their deans.
Through reading, discourse, and engagement with faculty and other students in and out of the classroom, our freshman class will experience IUP as a university that actively encourages student participation and recognizes the educational value of active involvement in the intellectual life of the campus.
