RECORDING STUDIO INSPIRES SWEET SOUND OF SUCCESS  — You’ll find the advanced audio lab provides professional-level studio technology. A recording booth serves six computer audio stations with record and talkback capabilities via an Aviom digital/analog network. Steinberg Cubase professional audio software supports up to 192 tracks at 16 or 24 bit and sampling rates of 44.1 to 96 KHz.

What’s Happening for Communications Media Majors?

Communications media majors can engage in many activities outside of the classroom, further enriching their enthusiasm for the topic.

WIUP-FM 

WIUP-FM provides ample on-air and production opportunity and includes students from various departments.

IUP-TV 

IUP-TV is a rich, all-inclusive campus resource that has been upgraded to digital format and offers a new state-of-the-art editing system.

Center for Media Production and Research

The center provides a media production and research environment where faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students work together to develop products for real-world clients. Products include video, live broadcasts, brochures, audio, graphics, photography, and games and simulations.

Student Photography Association

The Student Photography Association sponsors workshops and guest speakers and organizes field trips to museums and galleries. The group also cosponsors a photography competition.

National Broadcasting Society

The National Broadcasting Society is a gathering place for broadcasting and electronic media students. Members are invited to network with media professionals at regional and national conventions. They can also apply for national scholarships and production and scriptwriting awards.

International Game Developers Association (IUP Video Game Club)

The International Game Developers Association assists students who wish to develop video games. Weekly meetings often feature a new video game.

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)

Though this organization is sponsored by the Journalism and Public Relations Department, many communications media majors who are interested in public relations become involved with this club. Student-run, the chartered local IUP-PRSSA chapter is part of the international organization. Not only will you work with and develop lasting partnerships with PR professions, but you will also have the opportunity to have real clients in the community for whom you do PR work, ultimately building your professional portfolio. Journal of Communications Media Studies

The Journal of Communications Media Studies is an annual, peer-reviewed publication publishing original research in communication studies, media studies, and related fields. Students have the opportunity to participate with faculty in research and in the preparation of the journal.

Laurel Highlands Communications Conference

Held annually at IUP, this conference draws over 200 faculty and students from over a dozen institutions. Faculty and students have the opportunity to present their research and media works in an exciting academic environment. Students interested in promotions and event planning work with faculty to plan and run the conference.
