It presents a working understanding of musical intimacy, from the recording studio to the concert stage, from collective experience to individual listening and perception.

Steigler draws expertise from his experience in the study of popular music, having served on the executive board of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (US Branch). Campbell is a musician and assistant professor of audio production at Frederick Community College and has written about music in the International Journal of Music and Performance Improvement.
