About Communications Media

The Communications Media Department offers a bachelor’s of science degree as well as a doctoral degree. The department also offers two minors and a photography certificate.

In addition, the department partners with the Adult and Community Education Department for that department’s master's degree in Adult Education and Communications Technology.

Committed to Preparing You for Communications Professions

As a professional and theoretical emphasis area of higher learning, the Department of Communications Media of IUP is committed to the creation, preservation, expansion, and transmission of knowledge.

The department has the responsibility to include within its concern the needs of the profession as a whole and the society at large as its resources allow.

In meeting these responsibilities, the department is committed to preparing students for communications professions.

Hands-on Opportunities Available Beginning Freshman Year

The Communications Media Department offers quality undergraduate programs in which students learn to design, produce, and evaluate media messages. Beginning as freshmen, our students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience at our radio and television stations.

PhD Program One of Few in the Country to Include Production

Our doctoral program is one of only a few in the country that goes beyond theory and research to also include production.

Our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment include the Applied Media and Simulation Games Center, an Audio Recording Studio, the Digital Media Institute, a Graphics and Multimedia Lab, a Radio Station, and a Television Station.
