Below are some frequently asked questions about the Department of Chemistry and its opportunities.

How do I find information about Chemistry internships and other related summer opportunities?

Currently, you can subscribe to a departmental e-mail list (contact Dr. McElroy at When new information arrives in the department, you’ll be notified immediately! For more information, visit the Research and Job Opportunities webpage where all of that information will be shared and archived.

Is tutoring available for Chemistry classes?

Yes! The students of the American Chemical Society club hold tutoring for undergraduate courses in Chemistry (e.g., SCI-106, CHEM-101/102, CHEM-111/112, CHEM-113/114, CHEM-231/232, etc.) during the semester in Weyandt 128. Tutoring hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

For larger service courses, such as CHEM-101/102, there are also special help services called Supplemental Instruction available in Pratt Hall.

I’m a faculty member, staff member, or student in the Department of Chemistry and wish to have a news item or event posted on the website. What do I do?

Any newsworthy items that you wish to share or any scheduled events that you wish to advertise can be added to the website by submitting the details to Dr. McElroy (  Examples to submit include: alumni news, faculty publications and presentations, awards given to faculty, staff, or students, new course offerings, seminar notices, and club events.

I’m an alumni of the department and wish to share some news. What do I do?

We certainly love to know what our alumni have been doing!  Perhaps you’ve taken a new job, graduated with a master’s or Ph.D., or would like to share employment opportunities at your company.  You might wish to announce a birth or death that we should know about. If you have any news that you’d like to share, please send it to Dr. McElroy (

I’m looking for Chemistry students to fill a summer position, internship, or post-degree job opportunity. What do I do?
