About Career and Technical Education

The Center for Career and Technical Personnel Preparation was established in response to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Career and Technical Education’s need for a comprehensive program to prepare and upgrade career and technical education teachers and administrators in secondary schools in Western Pennsylvania. These individuals are employed by school districts and develop their skills while on the job as in-service teachers and administrators.

Service Area

The primary goal of the center is to provide an individualized and service-oriented approach to career and technical personnel preparation. The center staff strives to improve the quality of career and technical education in a rapidly changing technological and sociological environment.

The programs offered by the Center for Career and Technical Personnel Preparation include

  • Field-based teacher education
  • Occupational competency assessment
  • Cooperative education teacher/coordinator certification
  • Career and technical leadership certification

The center also prepares career and technical personnel who work in educational settings that do not require certification. These people teach in or administer career and technical programs in community colleges, adult night schools, correctional institutions, industrial settings, and private trade and technical schools. Programs for these educators are formalized through individual agreements.
