International Education Week will be held October 22 through October 27, 2012. IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. In observance of International Education Week, IUP’s Office of International Education, with funding from the IUP Cooperative Association and in collaboration with other IUP offices, has created a variety of events to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation in our community. Please join us!
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Folger Hall: Crimson Event Center
To kickoff International Education Week, the Office of International Education is hosting an International Lunch Hour from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Free food and music for all. Items from Mi Esperanza, non-profit organization that supports women in Honduras will be on sale. Also, view photos from the International Photo Contest 2012 on display and vote on a favorite photo for a “People’s Choice Award”. After this luncheon, photos will be on display in The Commonplace Coffeehouse until January 2013.
12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
HUB: Ohio Room
Come learn about the wide range of opportunities to study overseas. Students can obtain information and talk to representatives and alumni about IUP reciprocal exchanges, affiliated programs, faculty-led programs, and overseas volunteer and service-learning opportunities. This year, IUP’s ROTC will be present to discuss ROTC programs that support study abroad including scholarships.

HUB: Susquehanna Room
Come see a Chinese tea ceremony demonstration and visit ten to fifteen country booths, represented by IUP international students that will have various teas, coffees, juice, and snacks favored by their respective countries. Free and open to all.
11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
HUB: Monongahela Room
This program is in collaboration with the Center for Teaching Excellence. For faculty in reflective practice, this 90-minute workshop is considered a large group meeting. Faculty who had led groups of students abroad will share their experiences from planning to travel to evaluation. The Office of International Education staff will discuss how to get started while the Center for Teaching Excellence will offer ideas to internationalize curricula.

G-60 Suites on Maple-East
Open to female international students. This year's workshop is entitled, "Stress Management". The purpose of this event is to discuss strategies for managing stress and to meet other international women. We will have a panel of speakers including: Ghada ALAbbadi, PHD English Literature and Criticism student from Jordan; Dr. Kim Weiner, IUP Counseling Center Psychologist; and Jill Fiore, Sunflower Yoga Studio Director. Come to enjoy light refreshments and the company of other international women.

Kovalchik Convention and Athletic Complex: Toretti Auditorium
For the second year in a row, IUP has been asked to host a U.S. Citizenship Ceremony for those in the surrounding area. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Open to the public.

Kennywood Amuesment Park
Bus leaves HUB Lower Lot at 5:00PM. Reservations required. Ticket includes price of bus and Kennywood ticket.

Office of International Education (OIE)
F-1 visa holders are invited to learn more about how to apply for work permission to use during internships and after graduation or during breaks.

HUB
The IUP Saudi Students Association at IUP has organized an evening of traditional dances, cultural activities, photography, and authentic Saudi and Middle Eastern Food. Student tickets are $5.00. Email: Mohammed Alarjani LCMR@iup.edu or Ali Almohaimeed BLCR@iup.edu for more information.

The IUP Indian Student Association is inviting the IUP and Indiana community to join them for an afternoon filled with dances, singing, authentic Indian food.
