5:15 p.m.–6:15 p.m. | Suites on Maple East, G-60 Presented by the IUP Counseling Center, this is the first of several free activities scheduled during Chris Beckman's visit to campus April 1-4. Catapulted into the national spotlight when he was only 24, artist and former Ralph Lauren model Christopher Beckman's substance abuse and homosexuality were tabloid fodder during his stint on MTV's "Real World Chicago." Sober for 12 years now, Beckman will lead a workshop candidly discussing his struggles with addiction, his recovery, and how he deals with the "real world" today. This workshop will be of great benefit to anyone wanting to better understand addictions and coulseling those in recovery and is open to the public. |

7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. | Stouffer Hall, Beard Auditorium Throughout his years of chemical dependency, his time in the spotlight as a cast member of MTV's "Real World Chicago," his work as a Ford Agency model, his speaking engagements across the country, his life as an openly gay man, and the last 12 years in sobriety, a unique personal history has always and continues to inform Christopher Beckman's work as an artist. In this free workshop, open to everyone regardless of their art background, Beckman will take you on a visual journey through his photography, painting, and sculpture that illustrate his life and gives visual reference to many of the points raised in his recent book. There will be ample time for questions and answers, with an informal reception to follow. |

This event is part of the multiple day visit by special guest Christopher Beckman (April 1-4). Several Indiana Arts Association members will bring their own work for Chris to openly critique to all attending. He will discuss their work, how it may relate to his own, and the message the artists are working to convey. Refreshments will be served and there will be some time to ask questions about the art and about his life. |

Mr. Eckert has performed with some of the great names in jazz and is currently a Yamaha performing artist/clinician, Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at Texas Christian University. Prior to teaching, he had a 20-year career as lead alto saxophonist/woodwind specialist and music director for the United States Air Force premiere jazz ensemble, the "Airmen of Note."

Judging will occur between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., with prizes awarded (for IUP student only) starting at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to stroll through the Oak Grove to watch students create their drawing and to view the completed work.
