Charles Stevenson’s career spans almost five decades and includes a distinguished military career, a distinguished academic career, and an extraordinary level of public service through community boards and advisory councils. Charles completed both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at George Washington University and later completed all the coursework for a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh. He currently serves as president of CBS and Associates, a management consulting firm.
As a teenager, Charles’s supervisory skills were evident. At age 18, he served as a purchasing clerk for Curtiss-Wright Corporation, where he supervised a dozen people, all of whom were older than Charles. He was commissioned in the United States military at age 20. At age 23, he was hand-picked as an assistant post administrator for an organization of over 50,000. Charles was ultimately promoted to lieutenant colonel and later served as professor of Military Science at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and chairperson of the ROTC Department. He served in Europe during World War II and altogether spent 11 years in Europe, Korea, Japan, and Alaska.
Charles’s career at IUP spanned the years 1968 through 1989. During that time, he chaired the ROTC Department and served as a Management professor in the Business College, where he established new business majors, introduced and coordinated IUP Business Day, organized and chartered five student professional organizations, established internship programs for both U.S. students and foreign students, and served as acting dean of IUP’s College of Business.
Charles has been recognized with a number of awards for exemplary service, including the Legion of Merit from the U.S. Army in 1968 and the Patrick Henry Gold Medallion in 1998 by the Military Order of World Wars. IUP’s College of Business repeatedly cited Charles for outstanding service and named him Ambassador Extraordinaire in 1996. He has been listed in various Who’s Who publications. Charles has served on innumerable community boards, including those of the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Four-Footed Friends, and the Indiana Area Society of Human Resources Management and is a member of the board of trustees of Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Charles resides in Indiana with his wife, Sally, a former ballerina.
