Biology, BSEd

Samantha Betta

JOB RIGHT AFTER GRADUATION – Samantha Betta, a 2014 graduate of the BSEd program, is now a middle school science teacher in Clairton City School District. “The skills I gained from the Biology program at IUP have not only allowed me to get a teaching job in Pennsylvania right after graduation, but also given me the abilities I need to be an effective educator,” she said.

Grow in Your Knowledge of Science, and You Will Discover How Best to Share That Knowledge with Your Students

Indiana University of Pennsylvania has earned a reputation for excellence in teacher education and offers an outstanding student teaching program. Scientific minds excel in filtering information and finding relationships. As a biology education major at IUP, you’ll find that teaching and science are brought together in a way unsurpassed by other schools.

IUP’s Biology Department has the academic size and diversity to give you the opportunities found at larger research institutions while also providing you with the personal and intimate learning community found at smaller liberal arts colleges.

In the cycle of your life, you may want to explore other careers outside teaching. Many who complete this degree continue their education at the graduate level or work in government or industry. Some career options for graduates with biology expertise are health department official, drinking water plant operator, environmental protection official, laboratory director, laboratory technician, environmental consultant, industrial hygienist, safety supervisor, and food safety specialist. From biomolecules to biomes, IUP is the place to study biology.
