IUP students are as successful on our athletic fields as they are inside the classroom. A Division II school, IUP is a respected competitor within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in eight varsity sports for men and eleven for women. IUP teams or individuals regularly go on to postseason competition. Fans have the opportunity to participate by joining the Crimson Hawks Athletic Association. But that’s not all. For those interested in less competitive athletics action, IUP also offers a variety of club and intramural sports to choose from.
While we’re very proud of the performance of our athletes on the field, on the court and in the pool, what we really focus on is their personal growth. We expect a strong academic performance from them in the classroom. We encourage them to get out into the community. Yet, at the end of each season, we’re usually able to honor several All-Americans. I think it’s all a matter of ensuring a good balance.
