The Applied Research Lab is a statistics consulting center and is an integral part of the research and public service mission at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In its outreach to the university and the community, the ARL offers access to a variety of services and resources related to research design and analysis. The ARL is a component of the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
The Applied Research Lab provides technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, administrators, and those of the general public engaged in research. This assistance may include help with any or all of the following:
- Statistical software, such as SPSS, SAS, AMOS, and NVivo
- Hypothesis formulation
- Instrument design
- Data collection
- Data organization
- Data analysis
- Graphical presentation of data
- Interpretation of statistical results
- Web-based and handheld data collection software, such as Qualtrics
The ARL also offers workshops and classroom presentations on quantitative research and the use of statistical software, such as SPSS.
Individuals seeking assistance from the ARL need not be familiar with statistical or computer procedures, but should be willing to learn. An ARL consultant will be assigned to each project and will provide assistance until the project is completed. Individuals requiring help are responsible for entering their own data. All analyses will be conducted by the individual, with the assistance of the project consultant.
To avoid potential difficulties caused by inappropriate survey methods and questionnaire construction, the ARL strongly suggests the client contact us at the earliest stage of their research.
