The Special Collections and University Archives at Indiana University of Pennsylvania collects and preserves the institutional history of the university, as well as rare books, artifacts, and historical material of interest to the region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
You are welcome to search the website to find information and use our non-circulating materials in the reading room located in Stapleton Library, Room 302.
Our office hours occasionally vary from the hours listed at the bottom of the page, so you are encouraged to contact us prior to your visit. Also, please submit a request form for research inquiries in order to make the best use of your time.
Many of our collections are available full text online. Our digital collections include Coal Culture Projects, Indiana County in the Civil War, Digital Exhibits, IUP History, IUP Image Collections, and IUP Publications.
Our record groups represent the institutional memory of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Collections include numerous IUP publications and documents generated by campus offices and departments.
Manuscript Groups are collections created and donated by people, businesses, and organizations often associated with Indiana University of Pennsylvania or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our manuscript groups have a particular emphasis on industrial labor and union history related to coal mining, iron, steel, and transportation industries.
