Introduction
The Special Collections and University Archives at Indiana University of Pennsylvania was created in 1981 with the completion of the Patrick J. Stapleton, Jr. Library complex.
Researchers are welcome to use non-circulating materials in the reading room located in Stapleton Library, Room 302. Office hours are occasionally shortened, and visitors are encouraged to contact us prior to visiting in order to make the best use of their time.

Collections
Collections include four major research areas, including Record Groups, Manuscript Groups, the Pennsylvania Collection, and the Rare Book Collection. Digital collections include coal culture projects, digital projects and exhibits, IUP history, IUP Libraries digital collections, and photographs and images. Browse full-text IUP publications including alumni publications, catalogs, commencement programs, IUP history, serials, student handbooks, and yearbooks.
Record Groups serve as the institutional memory of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Collections include publications and documents generated by campus offices and departments, the Board of Trustees, the President's Office, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Alumni Relations, the University Senate, student organizations, and active unions on campus.
Manuscript Groups are collections created and donated by people, businesses, and organizations often associated with Indiana University of Pennsylvania or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Collections have a particular emphasis on industrial labor and union history related to coal mining, iron, steel, and transportation industries. Search for vertical files and manuscript collections that can be transcribed.
The Pennsylvania Collection and Rare Book Collection contain many rare and out-of-print publications searchable in the IUP Libraries on-line catalog.
