Introduction
The Special Collections and University Archives at Indiana University of Pennsylvania was created in 1981 with the completion of the Patrick J. Stapleton, Jr. Library complex. Collections include four major research areas, including Record Group Collections, Manuscript Collections, the Pennsylvania Collection, and the Rare Book Collection. Search collections, including coal culture projects, digital projects and exhibits, IUP history, IUP Libraries digital collections, IUP publications, and photographs and images.
Researchers are welcome to use collections in the reading room located in Stapleton Library, Room 302. Learn how to find information in the Special Collections and University Archives, and submit a request form for research inquiries. Visit our policies and procedures and brochure, and learn about citing materials from our collection. Office hours are occasionally shortened, and visitors are encouraged to contact us prior to their visits to make the best use of their time. Collections
Record Group Collections serve as the institutional memory of the university and include documents generated by offices and departments, the Board of Trustees, the President's Office, the Office of the Registrar, Student Activities and Student Affairs, Alumni Affairs, the University Senate, and active unions on campus. Search IUP publications, including catalogs, commencement programs, IUP history, serials, student handbooks, and yearbooks.
Manuscript Collections are papers created and donated by people, businesses, and organizations associated with the university or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Collections have a particular emphasis on industrial labor and union history related to the coal, iron, steel, and transportation industries. Search vertical files and manuscript collections that can be transcribed.
The Pennsylvania Collection and Rare Book Collection contain publications searchable in the IUP Libraries on-line catalog.
